Friday's Top Ten

In honor of veterans today on Veterans Day/Remembrance Day.

The top ten things about veterans:

10. They fought to keep us safe

  9. They fought to keep the freedoms we enjoy

  8. Some watched as their buddies died

  7. Some were injured

  6. Some never came home

  5. Some came home to spitting, jeers, and protests

  4. All have parents

  3. Most have families of their own

  2. Some need our help

And the #1 thing about veterans:

  1. All deserve our respect

Dear Veteran - Thank you for your service.

Hi,

So pleased to see this post, along with the few of us in blogdom who've chosen to remember rather than forget!

I wrote a tribute poem.

These all deserve to be on the list. We should all pay tribute to them. I posted about fixing up Dad's old WWII Army foot locker and putting his Army keepsakes in it.

This is a great idea for a top ten list, Carol. #4 is very touching, I can't imagine how difficult it must be for parents to send their children off to war. My dad and uncle were in WWII at the same time, and I've often thought I can't imagine what that must have been like for my grandparents.

Great list!

Yay for our veterans. Dad was a Lt. Colonel and served during the Korean war (and twenty years of reserves after that). I think I might buy him lunch today. :)

Well said, Carol!

Three brothers volunteered for WWI. One lied about his age and he was the only one of the three to come back. He was my grandfather. It makes you think, doesn't it?

Amen to all of the above! They do deserve our respect. Its because of our vets we can think, speak, and do what we want.

Poignant list, Carol. While I think it's important to have a day where we stop, acknowledge, and remember veterans for their tremendous service, I hope this list stays with each of us throughout the year.

Janet - Excellent. I'll be over to read yours, too.

Julie - I can't imagine that either.

L.G. - You dad will love having lunch with you - and not having to pay!

Amen, especially to that last one! Doesn't matter what the opinion on the war - the soldiers deserve respect.

Tami - Thank you, Tami. That means I did my job.
This is such an important list and these brave men and women certainly do deserve our respect, as well as our gratitude. My father was a Navy Lieutenant during the Korean War, and I know how proud he was to serve his country.
