Alphabet Soup

Writing is...
Affirming
Believing in yourself
Character building
Dog drool on all the windows you don't wash
Editing
Focus
Gazing out the window
Hash for dinner...again
Inspiring
Jumping for joy at The End
Keeping the fire in your belly through the muddy middle
Laptops
Music to write by
Notebooks filled with bits of this and pieces of that
Opening your mind
Plotting
Quiet time
Rewriting
Scenes
Talking to yourself
Upping the stakes
Visualizing the outcome
Work
X-rated curse words when your writing sucks
You and your muse
Zooming in the zone

Great list. One of my favorites is being in the "zone." Really, is there anything else like it?

Joanna - I hear you. I don't have to worry about the dogs picking up my choice words.

Joanne - The Zone is wonderful!

Mason - Glad you like it.

Lydia - I'm just a writer.

Well done, Carol! The alphabet is such a useful tool, isn't it? Thanks for the soup on this wet day here on the west coast.

Love the 'dog drool'! Hilarious. Carol!

Carol Kilgore said...

Elspeth - Whatever would we do without all those wonderful letters to play with?

Karen - Thanks :)

Talli - It's pretty nasty looking stuff.

Great list, Carol! Personally, I'm trying to ease off on the talking to myself. It makes the cats (who lick the windows rather than drool) nervous.

Thanks for this list -- I think you've covered it all!

Talking to yourself is OK, but the talking to yourself could also be the second R, reading your work back to yourself.

Also, for non-dog owners, I can also deal w/ your definition as most writers don't have time to wash windows!

Hi Carol,
Hmmm, yum! I like this alphabet soup. Thanks!

Carol Kilgore said...

VR - Perfectly understandable :)

Lisa - So true. And when the drool mixes with the dust and grime...totally gross - LOL.

Claudia - Cool :)

Ha! That's great. (And so accurate) :)

Carol Kilgore said...

Jennifer - Personal research :)
